Dr. Crystal Wells is a Naturopathic Physician dedicated to providing compassionate health care and contributing to the body of preventative medicine. Her passion is not only to help her patients achieve their health goals, but to empower them with the skills and knowledge they need to reach beyond their goals and optimize their health for the future.
Dr. Wells graduated with an honours degree in both Nutrition and Biology from Acadia University, later completing her doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto.
She is a firm believer in what was stated by Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine himself, "Let your food be your medicine and let your medicine be your food." Just as it was for Hippocrates, it is the guiding principle that really governs her approach as a physician. Dr. Wells inspires her patients to consume a diet that both suits their individual needs and supports the body's tissue to alleviate any symptoms (mental, emotional, physical, spiritual) that are a result of excess or deficiency.
Dr. Wells' approach emphasizes mind body medicine, and she works with patients to look at the perpetuation of mental/emotional imbalance in the context of physical ailments (such as cancer). In practice, she uses a broad range of modalities including clinical nutrition, lifestyle counselling, botanical medicine, nutritional supplementation, IV therapy, and injections such as European Mistletoe. Her practice comprises of adjunctive cancer care, cancer prevention, metabolic detoxification and weight management.
Dr. Wells has a special interest in addressing the care of those with cancer, a disease that commonly puts individuals in a state of vulnerability, confusion, and sometimes hopelessness. Dr. Wells works with her patients to remove these factors, to instil a sense of hopefulness, and in doing so, opens up an avenue of possibilities for patients to take their health into their own hands. It is a vital approach which helps to empower patients and give them the tools and support they need to journey through their cancer. Regaining quality of life and attempting to make the journey as comfortable as possible are goals to be achieved with integrative cancer care.
During her internship, Dr. Wells was selected to complete a rotation on the cancer care shift where she was trained by Fellows of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO). She works with patients before, during and after their conventional treatment, integrating natural medicine along side their conventional medicine, to improve effectiveness of chemo/radiation, decrease side effects, and improve quality of life. She uses oral agents, IV therapy, and injectables, such as European Mistletoe.
Dr. Wells is a member of the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia (CNPBC), the Candadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), the British Columbia Naturopathic Association (BCNA), and the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (oncANP).
